LED driver potting

What it is
LED drivers are electronic circuits that convert input voltage (mains grid 127V/220V) to voltage and current suitable for LEDs (typically 24V-48V at specific currents), controlling luminaire operation. In outdoor applications (street lighting, industrial, external architectural, stadiums, tunnels, parking lots), drivers are subjected to severe conditions: ambient temperature from −30°C to +55°C, variable humidity, rain, dust, salt spray in coastal regions, vibration (applications such as bridge lighting). Total driver encapsulation with PU potting is standard in premium outdoor drivers — it protects all electronic components, provides IP67 or IP68 protection class, and works as a thermal dissipator for power components. Difference between driver with quality potting vs. without potting: service life of 50,000-100,000 hours vs. 10,000-20,000 hours, respectively.
Why it matters
For infrastructure utilities, network integrators and equipment suppliers, outdoor led drivers is a decision where operational reliability is the central variable. Failure in electrical or telecom networks generates service interruption with direct economic impact and regulatory penalties (SAIDI/SAIFI in energy, telecom regulator fines in telecom).
Current drivers in strong acceleration. Broadband universalization in Brazil, continuous 5G expansion, sanitation investment via 2020 Legal Framework, electrical transmission network modernization driven by ONS auctions — all consuming new infrastructure in relevant volume. Renewable energy integration (distributed solar, onshore/offshore wind) adds structural demand. Technical PU components (cables, accessories, sealants, potting) are recurring consumption in every expansion.
