What it is

Mining abrasion-resistant linings are cast (molded) or spray-applied polyurethane pieces used to protect ore processing equipment from the extreme erosion caused by continuous contact with crushed rock and abrasive slurry. Typical applications include internal lining of mills (ball and rod), chute lining, troughs, hydrocyclones, screens, slurry pumps, transport bucket lining.

Abrasion in ore processing is one of the most extreme conditions a material can be subjected to — some applications exhibit wear rates of tens of millimeters per month in conventional steel. Specialized PU elastomers resist this abrasion with much superior longevity, delivering massive operational gains.

The technology uses elastomers of specific hardness (generally 85 to 95 Shore A), formulated for maximum resistance to wet abrasion (abrasion in the presence of water) or dry according to application. Systems can be cast in pieces that are bolted to the equipment, or spray-applied directly onto the surface to be protected.

Value proposition

Value proposition

Typical ROI for replacement in mining:

  • PU lining in crusher feed chute: investment of USD 50,000, service life 18 to 36 months versus 6 to 12 months of conventional rubber lining (USD 20,000). Net savings per cycle: USD 10,000 to 30,000 + massive downtime reduction.
  • PU lining in ball mill: larger investment but 2 to 3 times longer life and better grain-size control of processed product.
