Inverters and transformers (insulation)
What it is
Solar inverters (DC-AC conversion), medium-power transformers, industrial motor drivers and power conversion equipment use PU potting for electrical insulation, thermal dissipation and mechanical protection. Similar to LED drivers but at higher powers.
The PU technology applied here is typically high dielectric strength pu potting, selected for the combination of mechanical, chemical and processing properties suitable for the application. Specific formulations vary by equipment manufacturer or final integrator, but the base system has stable characteristics documented in technical literature and segment-specific standards.
Why it matters
For electronics manufacturers and EMS, inverters and transformers is a decision simultaneously impacting unit cost, field failure rate, regulatory certification and production cycle time. Wrong material costs cents per unit and hundreds of millions in accumulated recall. Right material delivers years of operation without failure even in aggressive environments.
