Laminated multilayer packaging adhesives

Multilayer flexible packaging — those that protect foods in sachets, snack packs, long-life milk cartons, coffee, cookies, and hundreds of other products — are constructed by laminating two or more layers of different films (BOPP, PET, aluminum, polyethylene, nylon) with specialized adhesives. Each layer performs a function: oxygen barrier, light barrier, moisture barrier, mechanical strength, sealability. PU adhesives are the dominant technology in flexible packaging lamination globally — chosen for their unique combination: excellent adhesion to multiple substrates (polyolefins, PET, aluminum), flexibility of the laminated film, resistance to high sterilization temperatures (retort), and compliance with food-grade regulations when correctly formulated. Solventless (solvent-free) systems are a strong trend in developed markets for environmental and economic reasons; solvent-based still dominate emerging markets.
