What it is

What it is

Water treatment plants (WTPs) and sewage treatment plants (STPs) have various concrete tanks and structures that require robust waterproofing and specific chemical resistance: coagulation tanks, flocculators, sedimentation tanks, filters, disinfection reservoirs (with residual chlorine), ozone reaction tanks, anaerobic digesters. These environments combine aggressive chemical exposure (treatment products), permanent humidity, thermal variations and concrete structural movements. Spray-applied PU coatings offer advantages over conventional paints: monolithic membrane without joints, exceptional concrete adhesion, flexibility to accommodate movements, specific chemical resistance when properly formulated, rapid application in complex geometries. Segment growing driven by: sanitation expansion in emerging markets (Brazil has significant deficit to be supplied), modernization of aging stations in developed markets, and growing water reuse requirements in industries.

Why it matters

Why it matters

For infrastructure utilities, network integrators and equipment suppliers, waterproofing of water treatment plants is a decision where operational reliability is the central variable. Failure in electrical or telecom networks generates service interruption with direct economic impact and regulatory penalties (SAIDI/SAIFI in energy, telecom regulator fines in telecom).

Current drivers in strong acceleration. Broadband universalization in Brazil, continuous 5G expansion, sanitation investment via 2020 Legal Framework, electrical transmission network modernization driven by ONS auctions — all consuming new infrastructure in relevant volume. Renewable energy integration (distributed solar, onshore/offshore wind) adds structural demand. Technical PU components (cables, accessories, sealants, potting) are recurring consumption in every expansion.
